Job Role & Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Supervisor to lead a skilled engineering team within a highly automated manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining team supervision with day-to-day engineering support to ensure equipment reliability, minimise downtime and maintain high operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, support and develop the engineering team to achieve strong performance and engagement
- Plan and coordinate daily maintenance activities across engineers and contractors
- Manage planned and reactive maintenance activities to maximise equipment reliability
- Drive improvements across PPM systems, downtime reduction and engineering standards
- Provide technical support and escalation for breakdowns when required
- Work closely with production, planning and management teams to prioritise engineering activities
- Ensure all engineering work is completed safely and in line with compliance, audit and site standards
- Manage contractor activities and support engineering projects
- Maintain high standards around food safety, hygiene, contamination control and engineering best practice
- Support budget management and continuous improvement initiatives
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- Experience leading or supervising an engineering team within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong mechanical or electrical engineering background
- ONC / HNC or equivalent engineering qualification
- Experience managing planned and reactive maintenance activities
- Good understanding of PPM systems and reliability improvements
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A hands-on approach with the ability to balance leadership responsibilities with practical engineering support
- Experience working within a 24/7 production environment
Desirable Skills:
- Experience within food manufacturing, FMCG or process manufacturing
- Experience in highly automated production environments
- Contractor management experience
- Experience supporting engineering projects and budgets
- Knowledge of statutory compliance and audit requirements
- Electrical fault-finding experience including controls, sensors, motors, drives and automated equipment
- Mechanical experience with conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, pumps, pneumatics and production machinery
- PLC fault finding experience
- Experience improving maintenance systems and reducing downtime
