Overview
The energy transition drives an unprecedented growth in demand for and generation of electricity. To accommodate this growth, the capacity of transmission systems is projected to grow three-fold. High voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems will connect remote and offshore renewables, interconnect energy markets and reinforce AC grids. Converter stations convert AC to DC and vice versa. The control and protection systems are central to the operation of HVDC valve technology, ensuring efficient, safe, and reliable performance of power electronic valves and peripheral equipment.
GE Vernova’s Grid Systems Integration business line offers control and protection solutions for both voltage sourced converter (VSC) and line-commutated converter (LCC) HVDC valve technologies to meet the transmission planning needs of utilities, system operators, developers and industrial clients worldwide. The control & protection algorithms are key to enabling HVDC transmission systems’ functionality, capabilities and performance. GE Vernova’s HVDC NPI team requires Principal Engineers who act as technical consultants, ensure customer confidence, review and enhance design practices, gate-keep technical reviews, apply lessons learned, lead complex technology improvements, engage with quality reviews and cost optimization exercises within and across domains. GE Vernova is currently looking for an experienced technical specialist to join us as Principal Engineer – Control & Protection Systems/Application.
