Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Location: St Ives, Cambridgeshire (with occasional UK travel) Salary: £50,000-£60,000 Working Pattern: Flexible working arrangements available Type: Permanent
The Role
Our client is a growing IT Service Provider and they are looking for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join the team, supporting a wide range of client environments across networking, cloud and core infrastructure technologies.
This is a hands-on technical role with a strong networking focus, ideal for someone who enjoys designing and delivering robust infrastructure solutions while acting as a senior technical point of escalation.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver infrastructure and networking projects across multiple client environments
- Design, implement and support LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN and firewall solutions
- Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure and networking issues
- Support infrastructure assessments, technical onboarding activities and solution reviews
- Design, document and maintain network and infrastructure solutions
- Work closely with internal teams to support project delivery and pre-sales technical discussions
- Drive automation, standardisation and continuous service improvements
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, network diagrams and operational procedures
- Research and evaluate new technologies to enhance client environments and service offerings
Skills & Experience
We’re looking for someone with experience working within an MSP or multi-customer environment, with strong networking expertise alongside broader infrastructure knowledge.
Technical Experience
- Strong understanding of networking technologies including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, WAN, LAN, WLAN, VLAN and VPN
- Hands-on experience with firewall and networking platforms including Fortinet, Cisco Meraki, Sophos, WatchGuard and UniFi
- Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices
- Experience supporting Microsoft infrastructure technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, MFA and SSO
- Experience supporting cloud platforms including Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud
- Virtualisation experience with VMware, Hyper-V or Citrix environments
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation and technical problem-solving skills
- Experience delivering technical projects and infrastructure upgrades
Desirable
- Fortinet certifications (FCA/FCP) or strong Fortinet experience
- CCNA, CCNP, Network+ or equivalent networking certifications
- Experience with network monitoring and management platforms
- Microsoft or cloud-related certifications
- Experience supporting multi-site and multi-customer environments
