A leading public sector organisation is currently recruiting for an Employee Relations Project Lead for a 9 month contract.

The position is based in Central London, with hybrid working, requiring 3 days per week on‑site per week. This role is offered inside IR35 and will be paid at a day rate of up to £400 umbrella.

Interviews are being held next week and they want someone to start ASAP so will only consider candidates on 1 week notice or less.

About the Role

You will be responsible for leading the Request to Review (appeal) process for a large pay and reward project currently in flight.

This is a high‑impact senior HR leadership position responsible for coordinating and delivering a proactive, corporate‑level employee relations service across a large, diverse organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the appeal process, monitoring timescales and evaluating outcomes.
  • Advise on the process, policy and approach to be adopted in response to specific issues, ensuring adherence to programme governance.
  • Ensure business readiness in advance of implementation activities.
  • Ensure alignment with policy and process requirements.
  • Ensure robust and relevant data is collected and maintained
  • Close collaboration with the Head of Employee Relations and Head of Business Partnering and the Project team to ensure seamless delivery
  • Working with the Project team to contribute to the implementation plan, and ensure tasks assigned to them are regularly updated
  • Ability to support across other strands of activity as and when required in the small and busy team
  • Provide strong leadership to the employee relations project team, empowering them to handle cases with professionalism, consistency and integrity. Promoting collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Work with Assistant Director of Business Partnering and Employee Relations to produce metrics and reporting
  • Lead team of ER Advisors (Appeals) to deliver appeals within timescales.
  • Build trusted relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Undertake all line management responsibilities for team members ensuing all employee lifecycle responsibilities are completed.
  • Acts as an ambassador in support of the wider achievement of the HR strategy.

About You

  • Ideally qualified to CIPD level 7 or able to demonstrate significant experience of operating at this level with an excellent working knowledge of employment legislation, interpretation within the public sector and responsibility for casework within a large organisation.
  • Up to date knowledge of employment legislation and recent case law affecting HR.
  • Understanding of the specific requirements of HR in the public sector.
  • Proven experience working at a senior level in HR in a large and diverse organisation, providing HR advice and guidance at Senior Management level.
  • Significant demonstrable experience of engaging with and influencing managers within the business in relation to people management.
  • Able to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively explain casework interpretation and issues in a concise and user-friendly way; including the ability to speak authoritatively and persuasively to managers, including senior managers, on employment matters.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to provide clear and accurate written advice to managers, including Senior Management, including the ability to write detailed letters, reports and other documentation on matters involving people management, using clarity and exact precision of language.
  • Demonstrate exceptional organisational skills.
  • Demonstrates an inclusive leadership style.
  • Very good problem-solving skills with the ability to identify pragmatic and creative solutions to matters involving people, applying those skills to align with strategic priorities of the business
  • Ability to personally deliver hands on work as well as lead and co-ordinate the work of other to deliver to deadlines
  • Effective prioritisation of the work of the team to deliver to timelines and operational priorities
  • Previous experience of implementing a new pay framework and managing the request to review (appeal) project
