About the Role
Kettering General Hospital is recruiting a Senior Nurse Practitioner for Gynaecology (Sonographer) to join its specialist Gynaecology Service.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Gynaecology Nurse with ultrasound expertise to play a key role within the Gynaecology Same Day Emergency Care (GSDEC) and Termination of Pregnancy (TOP) services. The successful candidate will provide expert clinical leadership, autonomous patient assessment, specialist ultrasound services, and support the continued development of high-quality, patient-centred care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical assessment, treatment, and care planning for women accessing GSDEC and TOP services
Undertake autonomous ultrasound examinations and independently report findings
Support women through early pregnancy, gynaecological, and termination of pregnancy pathways
Provide specialist advice and clinical leadership to nursing and multidisciplinary teams
Manage and prioritise ultrasound referrals and clinical workload
Act as a patient advocate, ensuring compassionate, dignified, and individualised care
Support patient flow across gynaecology services in collaboration with inpatient and capacity teams
Contribute to governance, incident review, audit, and service improvement initiatives
Support the development and education of junior staff and nursing colleagues
Participate in Gynaecology Forum and Morbidity & Mortality meetings
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
Educated to Degree or Diploma level
Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound with specialist modules in Early Pregnancy and Gynaecology xkybehq Ultrasound
Minimum of 4 years’ Gynaecology nursing experience
Competence in diagnostic ultrasound relevant to the specialty
Evidence of leadership and specialist clinical development
Excellent communication and counselling skills
Strong organisational and workload management abilities
Ability to work autonomously and make sound clinical decisions
Desirable
- Previous experience within Same Day Emergency Care services
Experience supporting service development and quality improvement initiatives
Teaching, mentorship, or staff development experience
