Sales Director – Retail or Manufacturing

Our client is a well-established and highly regarded structural steel contractor, delivering a wide range of steelwork projects across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Estimating Manager to join their commercial team and lead the estimating function from their office. Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the estimating team, overseeing incoming enquiries, producing accurate and competitive tenders, and ensuring departmental KPI targets are achieved. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced estimator looking to take the next step into a management role or for an established Estimating Manager seeking a new challenge. Prepare accurate and commercially competitive estimates for structural steelwork projects. Liaise and negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotations. Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, architects, engineers, and contractors. Produce weekly reports on enquiry status, tender pipeline, and departmental performance for the leadership team. Review team performance regularly and provide coaching and development support. Review drawings, specifications, and Tekla models to assess constructability and project requirements.HNC, HND or Degree qualified in Building Studies, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. Strong knowledge of building construction, structural steelwork, and civil engineering principles. Experience pricing projects ranging from 50 to 3,000 tonnes of steelwork. Strong commercial awareness and understanding of estimating and costing processes. Experience liaising with contractors, architects, engineers, and consultants. Knowledge of Tekla models and steelwork constructability would be advantageous. Previous line management or team leadership experience. Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
