Trainee Account Manager — Wine Sales
No wine experience needed — we’ll train you · North West · Hybrid · Permanent
Where: Out across the North West, with office days at our South Manchester HQ in Cheadle.
Salary: £25,000–£30,000 depending on experience + car allowance, plus fully funded wine qualifications.
Fancy a career in wine?
This is a rare chance to start one- no wine experience required. We’re looking for someone great with people and keen to learn, and we’ll teach you the wine and the sales craft from the ground up. You’ll grow into looking after your own patch of independent and on-trade customers across the North West: keeping them happy, winning new business, and selling wines you’ll come to love.
Who this is for
Maybe you’ve been pulling pints, working a shop floor, or looking after customers on the phones. Maybe you’ve just finished a degree- in anything at all- and want a proper career with progression. If you’re brilliant with people, curious and ready to throw yourself in, this could be the start of something. (And yes- if you’re in hospitality and itching to make your first move into sales, this one really is for you.)
What you’ll be learning to do
• Building real relationships with independent and On-Trade customers- wine shops, wholesalers, bars, restaurants and hotels.
• Looking after existing accounts and helping them grow.
• Getting out there to win new business.
• Matching the right wines to each customer, and running tastings and training.
• Learning the commercial side- pricing, planning and forecasting- with support every step of the way.
The kind of person we’re after
You don’t need to know wine yet- we’ll teach you that. What we can’t teach is the stuff that makes someone brilliant at this: liking people and being easy to like, curiosity, graft, and the kind of honesty that means you’d tell a customer the truth even when a quick sale would be easier.
Bring the wit, the warmth and a bit of quiet ambition. We’ll bring the wine knowledge, the training and the support.
How we’ll back you
• Fully funded WSET wine qualifications- Level 2, then Level 3, with the Diploma open to you after that.
• A named mentor and a proper development plan.
• A supported start- a smaller account base and time alongside experienced colleagues before you run your own territory.
• Honest, regular conversations about how you’re doing, so you always know where you stand and what’s next.
Why Boutinot? Why now?
We’re an exciting, growing and progressive business in a wonderful trade. We make our own wines from estates across the Old and New World and represent a remarkable cast of world-class producers- an extensive portfolio with something for everyone. More than that, we’re a people business that happens to sell wine: somewhere people enjoy what they do, are looked after, and get the chance to grow. Pay good people well, develop them properly, and have honest conversations along the way- that’s how we work.
What you’ll get
• Competitive base salary + car allowance (no commission or bonus — we pay a strong base instead).
• 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, a paid day off for your birthday, and quarterly wellbeing/charity days.
• Option to buy additional annual leave.
• Private healthcare (after a qualifying period) and an Employee Assistance Programme.
• Royal London pension.
• Funded WSET training and ongoing development.
• Discounted staff wine account, and stays at our wineries abroad.
• On-site gym and fully-equipped kitchen at our HQ.
• Cycle-to-work scheme and EV car scheme (after a qualifying period).
• Long-service and special-occasion rewards.
