Assistant Commercial Manager

Looking to move beyond the traditional Assistant QS role and gain real exposure to project and commercial management?
We’re working with a growing engineering business delivering a range of high-profile mechanical and engineering projects, and they’re looking for an Assistant Commercial Manager to join their team in Bristol.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with commercial, quantity surveying, or M&E experience who wants more responsibility, greater project involvement, and a clear route towards Commercial Manager level.
You’ll work closely with experienced commercial and operational teams, gaining exposure to every stage of the project lifecycle while developing the skills needed to progress your career.
The Role
You’ll play a key part in the commercial success of multiple engineering projects, supporting project delivery while helping to maximise profitability, control costs, and manage contractual obligations.
Working alongside Project Managers, Engineers, Site Teams, and Senior Commercial professionals, you’ll be involved in:
• Supporting the commercial management of projects from award through to final account
• Monitoring costs, budgets, forecasts, and project performance
• Managing subcontractor accounts, variations, valuations, and payments
• Assisting with applications for payment and commercial reporting
• Producing cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial analysis
• Identifying commercial risks and opportunities across projects
• Supporting contract administration under NEC and JCT contracts
• Working closely with both site and office teams to ensure projects remain commercially successful
What We’re Looking For
• Experience within an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Assistant, or Assistant Commercial Manager role
• Background within construction, engineering, M&E, or building services projects
• Understanding of commercial processes and project cost control
• Knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contracts
• Strong numerical, analytical, and Excel skills
• Organised, proactive, and keen to develop professionally
• Degree qualified (or working towards) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline would be advantageous
