Job Description:

Cloud Engineer

Location: Reading (hybrid working)

Type: Permanent, full-time

Salary: £45k-£65k DOE

A growing software business in Reading is hiring a Cloud Engineer to help build out and scale its cloud infrastructure.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership, working closely with the Engineering Lead on both architecture and day-to-day delivery. You’ll play a key part in building a modern Kubernetes platform, migrating environments across, and running it day to day.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build and scale a modern Kubernetes platform
  • Design and write Terraform to deploy cloud infrastructure cleanly and repeatably
  • Migrate existing environments onto the platform
  • Own and operate clusters across multiple environments
  • Build out backup, snapshot and recovery processes
  • Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines
  • Set up monitoring, alerting and observability
  • Take ownership of reliability and uptime as the platform grows

Essential

  • Experience with Kubernetes – managing clusters day to day
  • Experience with Terraform – writing and maintaining infrastructure as code
  • Familiar with a major cloud platform – AWS or GCP preferred
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or similar)
  • Solid Linux and networking fundamentals
  • An operational mindset – reliability, observability and automation, not just deployment

Desirable

  • Good understanding of cloud security and access management
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch or similar)
  • Scripting or automation skills (Bash, Python, Go, etc)
  • Experience supporting cloud migrations or platform modernisation
  • Exposure to regulated or compliance-led environments

What’s on offer

  • A greenfield project with real ownership – shape and build the platform from the ground up
  • Close collaboration with the Engineering Lead on technical direction
  • Clear career progression and scope to grow as the platform and team expand
  • Permanent role, hybrid working
  • £45k-£65k depending on experience
  • Modern office in Reading with free on-site parking
