Quantity Surveyor – Structural Steelwork

Location: Bristol

Salary: £50,000–£70,000 + benefits package

Every successful steelwork project has someone keeping a close eye on the numbers behind it.

From the first valuation to the final account, this role plays a key part in protecting margins, managing risk and making sure projects remain commercially strong throughout delivery.

With a healthy pipeline of work across commercial, industrial and infrastructure sectors, this structural steel specialist is looking for a Quantity Surveyor who understands the realities of fabrication, installation and project delivery.

You’ll work closely with project managers, estimators, engineers and clients to ensure projects stay commercially controlled from contract award through to completion.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage the commercial performance of structural steelwork projects from award through to final account
  • Prepare and agree interim valuations, variations and final accounts
  • Monitor project costs, budgets, forecasts and cash flow throughout delivery
  • Review drawings, specifications and contract documentation to identify risks and opportunities
  • Procure and manage subcontractor packages and commercial agreements
  • Support project teams with accurate reporting, commercial guidance and contractual advice

What they’re looking for

Must have:

  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within structural steelwork or the wider construction industry
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
  • Experience managing valuations, variations and final accounts
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural drawings
  • Strong numerical, analytical and negotiation skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously

Nice to have:

  • Understanding of steel fabrication and installation processes
  • Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • Familiarity with standard forms of contract such as NEC or JCT
