EMBEDDED SOFTWARE ENGINEER (AUTOMOTIVE) – MIDLANDS AREA – 12 MONTHS+

My client, a company working in the Automotive industry, is currently searching for a FREELANCE Embedded Software Engineer to join their project working on components for the automotive industry,

Responsibilities

• Build and update firmware for prototype and production platforms aligned with OEM and global standards
• Create and maintain modular software blocks to support IP reuse across product lines
• Assist clients on‑site with configuration, calibration, debugging, and resolving software issues
• Perform validation, testing, and quality checks for assigned software components
• Collaborate within an agile team structure, managing tasks independently while adapting to project needs
• Follow established workflows and contribute to refining development and testing practices

Requirements

• Prior work in regulated sectors such as aerospace, automotive, or medical devices
• Strong command of C for safety‑critical systems and familiarity with MISRA standards
• Skilled with fixed‑point and floating‑point operations
• Experience with 32‑bit CPUs, FPUs, interrupts, peripherals, and real‑time coding
• Understanding of compilers, linkers, makefiles, and CI automation
• Hands‑on use of VFlash, CANalyzer, and Canoe
• Experience with AUTOSAR – device drivers, BSW, RTE, and ASW layers, especially using Vector MICROSAR and DaVinci
