Architectural Building Regs Consultant

Company: The Annoying Recruiter
Apply for the Architectural Building Regs Consultant
Location: Birmingham
Job Description:

Architects are experts in almost any room they walk into in Construction. Why don’t your pay and conditions reflect that?

Use the skills you’ve already got, in a job you’ll recognise and feel comfortable in and change that dynamic completely.

You’d earn between £60,000 and £70,000 from your first day, with a bonus scheme targeting 10% of your salary on top. But it’s not just about the money.

In this role, clients don’t brief you. They come to you for answers. You’re advising duty holders, and leading the conversations that decide whether a building is safe and compliant. Your knowledge stops being a time resource billed out hourly and starts being what people actually pay for: knowledge, experience and credibility.

If you stayed in a practice, in five years’ time you’d be where you are now financially, in terms of title, and in terms of progression. If you moved here, you’d be miles ahead o every ex colleague on all three. Building safety is a young industry and the people getting in now aren’t just filling roles. They’re building careers that everyone who waited will spend years trying to catch up with.

The progression inside this job reflects that.

You could be enjoying 30 days holiday from day one (plus bank holidays) 36 days after a few years service. That’s more than a Director in architecture will ever see. Your salary is reviewed every year. And because you’re building a career in safety rather than a practice, the ceiling above you is completely different. The country needs thousands more people like you over the next five years.

You’d work from home. If you worked here, you’d close your laptop at five, already be where you wanted to be, and keep the money you used to spend just getting into someone else’s office.

The business holds Investors in People Gold. Very few organisations in the UK achieve it. It isn’t something you apply for and receive. You get audited on how you actually treat your people and most who try don’t pass. That tells you what kind of employer this is.

What you’ll be doing

  • Gateway 2 submissions, BR trackers and compliance statements on Higher-Risk Buildings (There is a mix of HRB and Non-HRB work).
  • Leading design team meetings and building regulations compliance workshops.
  • Producing Safety Case gap analyses, competency statements and gateway trackers.
  • Acting as BRPD Advisor and Building Regulations Client Advisor to duty holders and architects.

What you’ll need

  • A background in Architecture.
  • Working knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022 and ideally higher-risk building compliance
  • Experience on complex regulatory projects.
  • Confidence in client-facing and design team settings.

If this sounds like the move you’ve been considering, get in touch. I’d love to tell you more.
