SLB Cambridge Research (SCR) is part of SLB’s global network of research and engineering centres. SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.

Our Cambridge Research Lab, located near the University of Cambridge, offers an immersive, dynamic environment for young scientists. You’ll be part of a close-knit team working on a fascinating project that involves theoretical investigations into heat transfer of multiphase complex fluid flows. This is an opportunity to work with numerical simulations, using techniques like the finite volume method, to study transport phenomena (heat and mass) across liquid, and solid phases.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • CFD simulations (OpenFOAM).
  • Optimization (PYMOO).
  • Rheology measurements.
  • Discussions on fluid mechanics and multiphase/viscoelastic flows.
  • Data analysis and reporting.

Job Summary:

Support CFD simulations, optimization, and rheology experiments to study heat transfer and flow behaviour in complex viscoelastic fluid flows. Work with in‑house OpenFOAM solvers, assist with PYMOO optimization, perform basic rheology tests, analyze data, and contribute to reports and scientific discussions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Run OpenFOAM simulations and support multi‑objective optimization (PYMOO).
  • Generate and refine meshes (SnappyHexMesh).
  • Analyze heat‑transfer behaviour in elasto‑inertial instabilities.
  • Assist with rheological measurements (SAOS, viscosity, normal stresses).
  • Write technical reports and present findings.
  • Collaborate with scientists on active research projects.

Essential Requirements:

  • PhD in fluid mechanics, applied mathematics, aerodynamics, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Numerical background; OpenFOAM & PYMOO experience preferred.
  • SnappyHexMesh proficiency is a plus.
  • Knowledge of suspension flows, viscoelasticity, rheology, and heat transfer.
  • Data‑analysis skills (Excel, MATLAB, Python).

What we can offer you:

Private healthcare for employee & family, subsidised dental care, Health & Wellbeing programs such as the Employee Mental health support, health & wellness coaching, part employer and employee funded pension contribution, Income protection scheme, life insurance.

Other benefits are also available through the SLB flexible benefits program.

SLB is an equal employment opportunity employer. Qualified applicants are considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or other characteristics protected by law.
