Mechanical Supervisor – Data Centre Projects

Location: Camberley, Surrey, United Kingdom

Employment Type: Contract / Full-Time

Rate: £260–£375 per day (DOE)

About the Role

An established engineering and data centre contractor is seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to support the delivery of a major mission-critical data centre project in Camberley.

This role is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of all mechanical installation activities on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, to the highest quality standards, and in line with programme requirements. Working closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Engineers, and subcontractors, the successful candidate will oversee mechanical building services installations through to commissioning and handover.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience delivering mechanical packages within hyperscale data centres, critical environments, or large-scale commercial construction projects, with a strong understanding of HVAC systems, chilled water, pipework, and mechanical building services.

Key Responsibilities

Site Supervision & Coordination

• Supervise and coordinate all on-site mechanical installation activities.

• Manage mechanical subcontractors and direct labour to ensure works are completed safely and efficiently.

• Monitor progress against project schedules and identify potential delays or risks.

• Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, CSA, and construction teams to ensure efficient project delivery.

• Ensure daily site activities are completed in accordance with project specifications and quality standards.

Mechanical Installation

• Oversee installation of HVAC systems, chilled water pipework, ductwork, pumps, valves, and associated mechanical services.

• Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and installation documentation.

• Ensure installations comply with design intent, client specifications, and applicable regulations.

• Resolve technical installation issues in collaboration with engineering and project teams.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Conduct routine inspections to ensure mechanical works meet project quality standards.

• Manage snagging, defect resolution, and quality close-out activities.

• Support testing, commissioning, and system validation processes.

• Ensure all work complies with health and safety legislation, site procedures, and project requirements.

• Maintain accurate site records, inspection reports, and installation documentation.

Health, Safety & Risk Management

• Promote a positive health and safety culture across the project.

• Deliver toolbox talks, site briefings, and safety inductions where required.

• Monitor safe working practices and ensure compliance with RAMS and permit systems.

• Identify and escalate project risks, implementing corrective actions where necessary.

• Ensure subcontractors comply with company and client HSE requirements.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

• Liaise with Project Managers, Consultants, Clients, and subcontractors throughout project delivery.

• Attend coordination meetings and provide regular progress updates.

• Support client inspections, technical reviews, and handover activities.

• Build positive working relationships with all project stakeholders.

Experience delivering complex mechanical packages within fast-paced construction environments would be highly advantageous.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Supervisor within data centres, mission-critical facilities, or large commercial construction projects.

• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chilled water installations, ductwork, pipework, and mechanical building services.

• Experience supervising mechanical subcontractors and coordinating site activities.

• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

• Strong understanding of construction sequencing and mechanical installation methodologies.

• Knowledge of health and safety legislation, permit-to-work systems, and quality assurance processes.

• Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities within demanding project environments.

Desirable

• Previous experience working on Hyperscale Data Centre projects.

• Knowledge of commissioning and integrated systems testing processes.

• Experience working within live or operational critical environments.

• Familiarity with BIM coordination and digital construction tools.

• Experience using construction management and quality management platforms.

Qualifications & Certifications

Preferred

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services.

• Gold JIB-PMES Card or CSCS Gold Supervisor Card.

• SSSTS or SMSTS Certification.

• First Aid at Work Certification.

• Relevant Health & Safety qualifications.
