Do you enjoy helping people find information, develop new skills and succeed in their studies?
Peterborough College is looking for a customer-focused and proactive Senior Library Assistant to join our Library and Digital Resource team.
This is much more than a traditional library role. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with people, embraces digital technology and is passionate about creating an engaging learning environment where students can thrive.
You’ll play a key role in supporting learners and staff, promoting reading and digital literacy, managing resources and helping to develop a modern, welcoming and innovative learning space.
About the Role
As part of our Library and Digital Resource team, you’ll support the day-to-day operation of the Learning Resource Centre while helping students access the information, technology and support they need to succeed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing excellent customer service and responding to enquiries from students and staff.
- Supporting learners with library resources, digital platforms and online research.
- Promoting reading, literacy and independent learning.
- Managing library resources, including loans, reservations, stock control and acquisitions.
- Creating engaging displays, promotional materials and student-focused events.
- Supporting student inductions and library awareness activities.
- Producing reports, statistics and resource usage data.
- Assisting with purchasing processes, supplier orders and stock management.
- Supporting students with IT systems and helping to develop their digital literacy skills.
- Training and mentoring new staff and student placements.
- Working collaboratively with curriculum teams to support teaching and learning.
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
- Excellent customer service experience in a customer-facing environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence using digital systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
- A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
Experience within a library, learning resource centre, education environment or information service would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in candidates with strong customer service, administration or information management experience who are keen to develop within the role.
Most importantly, you’ll be passionate about supporting learners and creating a positive experience for everyone who uses our Library and Digital Resource Centre.
