Tittle – System Test Engineer
Location: Aberdeen, UK
Duration: 12+ Months
Pay Rate: £35–£40/hour via PAYE (Inside IR35)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced System Test Engineer to lead and manage all testing activities across complex customer engineering projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing the overall testing strategy, coordinating system verification and validation activities, leading Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT/eFAT) and System Integration Testing (SIT), and ensuring all customer requirements are successfully met prior to project handover.
This is a customer-facing role requiring strong technical leadership, excellent stakeholder management, and extensive experience within industrial automation, power, energy, or engineering environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end project testing activities from planning through execution and final customer acceptance.
- Develop and own the overall Test Strategy, Test Philosophy, and Project Test Plan.
- Produce and maintain all project testing documentation, procedures, reports, and records.
- Lead Verification & Validation (V&V) activities to ensure compliance with customer specifications and project requirements.
- Coordinate and lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT/eFAT), System Integration Testing (SIT), and on-site testing activities where required.
- Manage the Test Equipment Matrix and ensure all required resources are available throughout the testing programme.
- Conduct readiness reviews and coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure successful test execution.
- Track testing progress, manage risks, identify issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain project schedules.
- Record deviations, perform root cause analysis, and drive effective resolution plans.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Commissioning, Quality, Project Management, and Customers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure all testing activities are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement across testing processes and project delivery.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Automation, Control Systems, or a related Engineering discipline.
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in Customer Project Engineering, System Testing, Commissioning, or Project Test Leadership.
- Proven experience leading complex industrial system testing on customer projects.
- Strong experience in Verification & Validation (V&V).
- Hands-on experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT/eFAT), Site/System Integration Testing (SIT), and commissioning activities.
- Experience preparing Test Plans, Test Procedures, Test Documentation, and Test Reports.
- Strong understanding of industrial engineering standards, quality processes, and customer acceptance procedures.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple testing activities across concurrent projects.
