Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Building Services

Preston (Hybrid – minimal site travel)

£45 PAYE / £60.69 Umbrella (Inside IR35)

Initial 12-month contract (strong likelihood of extension)

SC Clearance required (or eligible)

Overview

We are working with BAE Systems Shared Services to recruit a Senior Electrical Building Services Engineer to support a portfolio of UK-wide projects, ranging from new build through to refurbishment and remodelling.

This role is design-led, focusing on early-stage engineering through to contractor oversight, working across multiple projects within a complex and highly regulated environment.

The Role

You will be responsible for delivering electrical building services design across RIBA Stages 0–3, and supporting project delivery through construction phases by managing contractors and reviewing designs.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Delivering electrical designs and concept solutions across early RIBA stages (0–3)
  • Producing feasibility studies, site surveys, and technical reports
  • Working across a portfolio of projects (new build, refurb and upgrades)
  • Reviewing and managing contractor design and delivery (RIBA 4–7)
  • Conducting site visits and surveys across UK locations (as required)
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations
  • Supporting multidisciplinary teams across M&E and external consultants

Requirements

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Design Engineer within Building Services
  • Strong knowledge of RIBA design stages (0–7), particularly early-stage design
  • Experience producing technical reports, surveys and feasibility studies
  • Background working on construction or consultancy-led projects
  • Proficiency with Revit (essential) and familiarity with tools such as Relux/Dialux
  • Strong stakeholder and contractor management experience

Desirable

  • Chartered or working towards (IET / CIBSE)
  • Previous experience within defence or highly regulated environments
  • Security clearance (SC) or eligibility to obtain

Working Arrangements

  • Hybrid working with limited site attendance (typically 1–3 days per month depending on projects)
