HiSpeed Ltd. designs, develops and tests tailor-made, highly efficient compact electric powertrains, drives, machines and inverters for automotive, aerospace and robotics applications. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our R&D team in Bicester, Oxfordshire.
This is a technical role open to senior level candidates and reports to the HiSpeed Ltd. R&D Technical Specialist.

Tasks:
- Lead the mechanical design of electric machines, inverters, and integrated drive units,
- Develop concepts, detailed designs, and production-ready drawings in 3D/2D CAD,
- Define and validate cooling strategies (water/glycol jackets, oil spray, direct immersion) in collaboration with electromagnetic and thermal engineers,
- Specify and integrate bearings, seals, gears, fasteners, and electrical interfaces, including tolerance stack-up analysis,
- Drive design-for-manufacture decisions across castings, machined components, plastic parts, sleeves and seals,
- Work with suppliers on producibility, cost, and quality
- Support prototype build, rig and dyno testing, and root-cause investigation of mechanical issues,
- Maintain BOMs, ECRs, and design documentation.
Essential skills:
- BSc/MSc/PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Expert 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred; Creo, NX, or CATIA acceptable)
- Proven track record producing 2D drawings to ISO GD&T standards
- Experience with FEA stress and modal analysis (ANSYS Mechanical, SolidWorks Simulation, Abaqus or equivalent)
- Hands-on practical skills to support prototype build, assembly, test, and development activities
- Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, customers, and cross-functional engineering teams
Desirable skills:
- Experience in mechanical design of electrical machines, inverters, or comparable rotating or power-electronic equipment in Automotive traction or Aerospace propulsion systems
- Experience with CFD for cooling and thermal-fluid analysis
- Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) systems and an appreciation of controlled engineering data workflows
