Job Description:

We’re recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer on behalf of a well-established engineering business that provides specialist services across the UK and overseas. The company works with clients in power generation, renewables, utilities, manufacturing, rail, marine, infrastructure, and defence, helping them maintain, repair, upgrade, and install critical electrical and mechanical equipment.

As part of their continued growth within the renewable energy sector, particularly large-scale hydro power projects, they are looking to add an experienced Mechanical Engineer to their engineering team.

Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be eligible for UK security clearance and hold a full British passport.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll play a key role in the design, manufacture, repair, and improvement of complex rotating machinery. You’ll work closely with customers, project teams, and fellow engineers to deliver high-quality engineering solutions across a variety of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design activities for motors, generators, rotors, stators, and associated equipment
  • Support upgrade, refurbishment, and retrofit projects
  • Work with customers and project teams throughout the full project lifecycle
  • Carry out engineering calculations, simulations, and performance analysis
  • Support factory and site-based testing activities
  • Diagnose equipment issues and conduct failure investigations
  • Produce technical reports, repair instructions, and engineering documentation
  • Assist with maintenance and service activities to improve equipment reliability
  • Support tendering and project teams with technical input on bids and proposals
  • Analyse test data and recommend improvements where required
  • Mentor and support junior engineers within the team

About You

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience designing rotating equipment such as motors, generators, pumps, turbines, or similar machinery
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering analysis
  • Experience working alongside CAD teams and reviewing engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of machinery diagnostics, failure analysis, and condition assessment
  • Familiar with manufacturing, commissioning, and maintenance activities
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach to engineering challenges
  • Good communication skills and the ability to lead projects and support junior team members
