The Role
You’ll manage a varied criminal defence caseload from instruction through to conclusion, representing clients at police stations and in the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts.
You’ll also:
- Build trusted relationships with clients and professional contacts.
- Work collaboratively with counsel, experts and external agencies.
- Support and mentor junior colleagues where appropriate.
- Contribute to the continued development of the department.
- Maintain the high professional standards our clients expect.
About You
We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Experience managing criminal defence matters independently.
- Strong advocacy and client care skills.
- Excellent case management and organisational ability.
- A collaborative approach and a genuine desire to contribute to a growing team.
- Police Station Accreditation and/or Supervisor status would be advantageous, although support can be provided to achieve this.
If occasional travel is required, we’ll discuss practical arrangements during the recruitment process.

Scarsdale Solicitors is looking for a Criminal Defence Solicitor to work in-house on a full-time basis, joining a growing team.
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000
Location: Greater Manchester
Suitable candidates must be ambitious, confident in managing their own caseload, and comfortable representing clients at police stations, Magistrates’ Courts, and Crown Court.
The role will involve:
· Preparing and managing criminal defence matters from start to finish
· Representing clients at court and police stations
· Supporting and supervising junior team members where required
· Maintaining high professional standards and contributing to the development of the department
· Building strong working relationships with clients, counsel, experts, and external agencies
Applicants should have:
· 5+ years’ experience in criminal defence work
· Proven post-qualified experience
· Strong advocacy and case management skills
· Supervisor status (or the ability to become one) preferred
· A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
