Job Description:

Legal Counsel – Construction

Location: London / Hybrid

We’re partnering with a leading international construction and infrastructure business to appoint a Legal Counsel into its established in-house legal team.

The role supports a broad portfolio of construction and infrastructure projects across the UK, working closely with commercial, procurement and project delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle.

You’ll advise on contractual, commercial and risk-related matters from tender stage through to project completion, supporting stakeholders across the business on day-to-day project delivery and strategic initiatives.

The position would suit a construction lawyer looking to move in-house, or an existing in-house lawyer seeking broader project exposure within a large-scale construction environment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Advising on the legal and commercial aspects of major construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Supporting bid teams on tenders, frameworks and strategic project opportunities.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of construction and engineering contracts.
  • Advising stakeholders on contractual risk allocation and commercial strategy.
  • Supporting project teams throughout the lifecycle of projects, from procurement through to delivery.
  • Negotiating ancillary project documentation including collateral warranties, guarantees, bonds and framework agreements.
  • Liaising with external counsel, insurers and other advisers when specialist support is needed.
  • Delivering practical legal guidance and training to colleagues across the business.

What we’re looking for

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales.
  • Experience advising on construction and engineering matters, gained either in private practice or in-house.
  • Strong grounding in JCT, NEC and bespoke construction contracts.
  • Confident drafting and negotiating complex contractual arrangements.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to balance legal risk against business objectives.
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to build credibility with non-legal stakeholders.

Why consider this opportunity?

  • Work on complex, high-value construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Gain direct exposure to commercial and operational decision-making.
  • Join a collaborative and highly regarded legal team.
  • Develop broader commercial experience than is typically available in private practice.
  • Build relationships with senior stakeholders across the business.
  • Enjoy a varied role with genuine autonomy and responsibility from day one.
