Contract Enforcement Officer

Location: Stevenage – Hybrid – Travel across Hertfordshire required.

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

Salary: £31,536 progressing to £34,433 per annum (pro rata for part time)

Role Overview

The Integrated Passenger Transport Unit is at the heart of delivering accessible, reliable, and environmentally sustainable transport services across Hertfordshire. As a Contract Enforcement Officer you will act as the eyes and ears on the ground, ensuring transport contracts run smoothly and in line with high standards, while supporting a wide range of residents – school pupils, older adults, and those with mobility challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out enforcement checks to monitor the performance of passenger transport contracts – ensuring punctuality, compliance, and quality.
  • Collaborate with operators and internal teams to gather and report accurate data, recommend improvements, and enforce penalties for non‑compliance.
  • Conduct compliance checks at schools, ensuring drivers and passenger assistants meet DBS and contract standards.
  • Use tracking software to analyse service data and help deploy resources where they are most needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently, manage workload, and adapt to meet team and service needs.
  • Strong numeracy, communication, and IT skills.
  • A full driving licence and access to transport; ability to travel across Hertfordshire as required.
  • Confident communicator able to engage with colleagues at all levels, contractors, and members of the public.
  • Strong influencing and customer service skills.
  • Experience in investigating and analysing data.
  • Contract management processes.
  • Experience in the bus and coach industry or a public‑facing role is desirable but not essential.
  • Discharge of a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check required.
  • Right to work in the UK – no sponsorship available.
  • English fluency in speaking and listening; provisions for sign language if required.
