Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic clinical scientist to work within the Nuclear Medicine Physics section, including undertaking equipment quality assurance, administration of radiopharmaceuticals for thyrotoxicosis, optimisation of image quality, teaching and training. The post‑holder will also work with technologists and clinicians to support service developments.

The Nuclear Medicine imaging service for UHNM has three gamma cameras (2 with SPECT‑CT) alongside radiopharmacy in a modern PFI hospital build and a PET‑CT scanner purchased in collaboration with Keele University. Nuclear Medicine Physics is part of the Radiology Physics section of Medical Physics which provides wide‑ranging scientific and technical support at this Trust and at neighbouring hospitals.

Main duties of the job

The post‑holder will be part of the physics team providing specialised clinical scientific services to diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine at the University Hospitals of North Midlands.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake equipment quality assurance.
  • Administer radiopharmaceuticals for thyrotoxicosis.
  • Optimise image quality.
  • Teach and train staff.
  • Support service developments with technologists and clinicians.

Qualifications

  • State Registered Clinical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) (or enrolled on the IPEM Training Scheme with date of completion in the next six months) with Nuclear Medicine Physics as the area of speciality.
  • Honours degree (1st or upper 2nd class) in Physical Science.
  • Postgraduate MSc degree in medical physics (or imminent completion).
  • Completion of a certificated national healthcare scientist training programme (National School of Healthcare Science STP training or equivalent qualification), in Nuclear Medicine Physics (or enrolled with completion within the next six months).
  • Completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS).

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years full‑time experience in hospital Medical Physics within the Nuclear Medicine Physics speciality.
