Overview
Our National Innovation & Capital Tax Reliefs Team works with a range of companies, from start‑ups to multinationals, assisting them in preparing claims for Research & Development tax relief. As an Innovation Reliefs Assistant Manager based in Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Leeds or Stoke, you will work with companies across all sectors—most notably manufacturing, engineering, life sciences, software and digital technologies—to identify and prepare successful tax relief claims. The variety of projects and impressive client list will challenge you daily, helping you expand your capabilities and grow professionally.
Responsibilities
- Develop claim methodologies and manage the preparation of R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
- Coordinate and lead meetings with clients, advising on R&D tax relief and assisting with identification of qualifying R&D activities and expenditure.
- Analyse and compile high‑quality qualifying R&D expenditure calculations.
- Demonstrate expertise in writing technical descriptions of the client’s projects to include in the reports.
- Collaborate with the wider team and support business development opportunities.
- Ensure the R&D engagement team are fully updated on progress and any issues that might affect the client relationship.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the IR team in the region and nationally.
Qualifications
- Relevant professional qualification (or working towards), e.g., CA, ACA and/or CTA.
- In‑depth knowledge of Innovation Reliefs.
- Experience in preparing and submitting R&D tax relief claims across sectors, with knowledge of different claim methodologies and industry‑specific challenges.
- Strong level of tax technical knowledge of the UK’s R&D tax incentives.
- Experience in drafting project technical descriptions with a clear and concise writing style, referencing the DSIT guidelines on R&D for tax purposes.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience responding to HMRC enquiries.
