Job Title: Site Agent – Highway & Cycleway Improvements

Location: Somerset (Taunton office base, primarily site-based)

Salary: £58,000 – £64,000 (DOE) + Car or Car Allowance

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

We are looking for a disciplined and organised Site Agent to oversee highway and cycleway improvement projects, including traffic signals, junction upgrades and active travel schemes. This is a hands‑on role for someone with strong construction experience, a focus on planning and organisation and the ability to deliver projects safely, on time and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage construction sites to deliver projects to programme, budget, and quality standards
  • Lead teams of up to 10 direct reports, promoting development and safety culture
  • Plan works in advance, preparing safety and quality documents proactively
  • Monitor and control project costs, identify and capture change/additional works
  • Ensure compliance with NEC contract conditions, CDM regulations, programme and risk management requirements
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental performance
  • Collaborate with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Promote an energetic, innovative, and sustainable approach to project delivery

Ideal Candidate

  • Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification/experience
  • NVQ Level 6 or above in construction‑related discipline
  • SMSTS qualified; CPCS Appointed Person desirable
  • Proven experience managing highway construction/improvement projects
  • Excellent planning, organisation, and time management skills
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts, ICE contracts, design management, cost control, and testing regimes
  • Temporary Works Coordinator desirable
  • Confident IT skills including MS Project and Excel
  • Full UK driving licence
