BEAR Scotland is a leading road maintenance and management service provider in Scotland, maintaining and improving Scottish Trunk Roads including bridges and structures through some of the most scenic, but challenging, parts of the country.
The Northwest Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country. It covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling.
BEAR Scotland is looking for a Roads Engineer to support the design and delivery of trunk road improvement schemes across the Northwest network.
This role offers the opportunity to work on projects ranging from £50k to £1M, contributing to the development and maintenance of critical infrastructure across some of Scotland’s most challenging and scenic regions.
Job Purpose:
You will play a key role in the investigation, design, and delivery of road improvement projects, working closely with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Undertake engineering investigations and develop design solutions
- Prepare reports, drawings, specifications, and BoQs
- Support the delivery of trunk road improvement schemes
- Assist with procurement and tender processes
- Ensure compliance with DMRB and CDM Regulations
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
- Knowledge of DMRB
- Experience using AutoCAD
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Experience with Civils 3D and design software (KeyLines/KeySigns)
- Understanding of construction and site delivery
