New Job Opportunity – Mechanical Inspector/Coordinator – 6 Month Contract Inside IR35 – Reading

Location: Reading

Contract: 6 Months

Requirements: Monday to Friday on site – 40 hours per week – SC Clearance required – Sole British

Role Purpose

The Mechanical Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all mechanical installation works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, standards, and quality requirements.

The role provides independent quality assurance across mechanical systems, ensuring compliance, safety, and workmanship excellence on construction or engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection & Quality Assurance

  • Monitor and inspect mechanical installation works including:
  • HVAC systems
  • Piping and pipework systems
  • Pumps, valves, and associated equipment
  • Pressure systems and containment installations
  • Ensure all work complies with:
  • Contract specifications
  • Approved drawings
  • Industry standards (e.g. BS, ISO, ASME)
  • Client quality requirements
  • Carry out regular site inspections and audits.
  • Identify non-conformance issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Verify that installation activities are completed in accordance with approved procedures and quality documentation.
  • Liaise with construction teams, engineers, subcontractors, and client representatives to resolve quality and technical issues.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and support project handover documentation where required.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Experience in mechanical engineering construction or inspection roles.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering techniques, including welding, pipework, structural steel, and mechanical installation.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documentation.
  • Experience with quality assurance and inspection processes.
  • CSCS Card or equivalent site certification.

Desirable

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Relevant inspection qualifications (e.g. Clerk of Works Certification).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to identify and resolve quality issues effectively.
  • Good understanding of construction health and safety requirements.
  • Proficient in maintaining inspection records and quality documentation.
