Apply for the Control Engineer
Location: London
Job Description:

Day-to-Day

Insight Global is looking for a Controls Engineer to join its hyperscaler client on a long-term contract. In this role, you will take central Data Centre R&D design templates and adapt them for regional deployment across European data centre projects, ensuring they are properly localised for countries such as Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Belgium. You will work heavily across HVAC control systems and broader control environments, including BMS, EPMS, and PLC/SCADA systems, ensuring designs meet both overarching engineering requirements and regional standards. You will support the full project lifecycle, contributing to design development, technical documentation, and engineering deliverables (including design specifications, drawing markups, system testing and acceptance documentation, and review of as-builts and submittals), while ensuring alignment to established engineering standards. The role bridges design through to construction and into operations, requiring you to ensure that localised designs are implemented correctly on-site and aligned to expectations, with full-time employees overseeing final sign-off.

You will collaborate with A/E design consultants, peer review technical deliverables (including control sequences, panel schematics, layouts, and calculations), and support continuous design improvement across products, construction, and operations. This includes identifying issues, supporting change management, contributing to reliability and availability improvements, and ensuring compliance with relevant directives such as Low Voltage and Machinery standards. The position also involves partnering with FTEs and supporting Data Centre Operations teams post-deployment, including managing system updates, additions, and changes. You will work across a multi-project environment (around seven active projects), contributing to design localisation, construction support, and operational handover activities. Regular travel across European sites is required (typically 30–50%, often Monday to Wednesday), with site visits spanning both construction and operational environments.

Must-Haves

  • Experience with Design / consultancy environments
  • Experience with Field / on-site engineering
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC control systems (airside and waterside)
  • Experience working across control systems including BMS, EPMS, and PLC/SCADA
  • Understanding of European data centre standards and regulations (e.g. Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive)
  • Ability to take template designs and apply localisation appropriately for regional deployment
  • Experience supporting projects through design, construction, commissioning, and operations
  • Experience reviewing technical deliverables such as:
  • Control sequences
  • Drawings and specifications
  • Panel schematics and layouts
  • Comfortable working across multiple live projects (~7 active)
  • Ability to collaborate with design consultants and internal stakeholders
  • Willingness and ability to travel across Europe and access sites
  • Understanding of how control systems support:
  • Cooling
  • Power continuity
  • Real-time monitoring
  • Automated response to issues
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation, testing, and acceptance processes
