The role

We are looking for a Business Analyst to join our Data Engineering team and play a key role in shaping how data, reporting and insight are delivered across the business. This is a newly created and high-profile position within the team offering a great opportunity for someone with a strong data background to work with both technical teams and wider business stakeholders and help move the business forwards through more consistent, scalable and trusted reporting across multiple group entities.

As a Data Business Analyst, you will:

  • Work closely with data engineers, analysts and FP&A colleagues to improve the quality, structure and usefulness of our data outputs.
  • Translate business needs into clear stories, specifications, acceptance criteria and test cases.
  • Act as a bridge between the business and technical teams to define reporting requirements, and ensure requirements are clear, achievable and aligned to business value.
  • Triage and prioritise new requests and analyse and prioritise backlogs.
  • Improve data modelling, reporting catalogues and data governance practices.
  • Lead stand-ups, retrospectives & acceptance meetings

Candidates will need the following, knowledge, skills and experience:

  • A Business Analyst with a strong background in data analysis, business intelligence, data engineering or a similar data-focused environment.
  • Confidence working with SQL to query, validate and understand data.
  • Experience using Power BI for reporting, analytics or stakeholder-facing insight.
  • Knowledge of data modelling concepts, such as dimensional modelling or semantic modelling.
  • Exposure to agile ways of working, backlog management or product ownership responsibilities.
  • Experience supporting data governance, reporting rationalisation or data quality initiatives.

Personal qualities required:

  • The ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Experience managing competing priorities (relating to triaging requests) and helping bring structure (to busy backlogs).

In addition to the above, ideal candidates will also have the following:

  • Experience working in a multi-entity or group company environment.
  • Understanding of financial planning, forecasting or performance reporting.
  • Experience in financial services, motor finance or credit would be beneficial, but is not essential.
