Mechanical Project Engineer Location: Rochester, Kent Contract Type: 12-month contract
Summary We are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to support MEICA design and delivery activities on allocated schemes, reporting directly to the C&DLs and MEICA & Commissioning Manager. The role involves ensuring all work is undertaken safely and in accordance with company procedures, specifications, and best practices. You will coordinate MEICA design activities from Gate Way 3 (GW3) through to the start of site delivery, providing technical and quality support to project delivery teams throughout the scheme lifecycle. Responsibilities include subcontract management during scheme close-out, reviewing and monitoring design and procurement deliverables, managing project risks, and ensuring commissioning requirements are incorporated at the design stage. You will liaise closely with design and procurement teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure smooth project execution and compliance with quality and safety standards.
This role requires strong technical knowledge of MEICA systems, including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation elements, with a focus on water and wastewater infrastructure projects. You will assist in reviewing design deliverables such as functional design specifications, equipment and instrument lists, P&IDs, control philosophies, and telemetry requirements. Additionally, you will support the review of compliance and commissioning plans and coordinate subcontractors during off-site manufacture and on-site delivery.
Skills Proven experience in MEICA design coordination and project engineering Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation systems Ability to manage subcontractors and support procurement activities Knowledge of commissioning requirements and technical governance Experience in reviewing and monitoring design deliverables (schedules, specifications, drawings) Risk management and change control expertise Excellent communication and stakeholder liaison skills Strong organisational and time management abilities Commitment to health, safety, and quality standards Ability to provide technical and quality support to project delivery teams
