Role purpose: To be a senior member of the team, develop bids and tenders to win work, generate innovative solutions in challenging ground engineering conditions, maximise opportunities, and provide added value to the client while meeting specifications. The business requires the safest and most efficient solutions for every tender, meeting quality metrics and delivery requirements, ensuring code compliance, and supporting junior team members.

What you’ll be doing

The successful candidate will work with the Estimator and support the work‑winning process, providing accurate solutions based on client requirements. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and produce winning solutions through technical competence and key customer relationships.
  • Review customer drawings and specifications and prepare accurate, code‑compliant designs.
  • Assist the estimator and Pre‑construction Manager to plan work based on experience or operational team reference.
  • Stay current with innovations and developments in the geotechnical and wider design community.
  • Review tender documents and submission requirements, ensuring all technical information is identified and included.
  • Assess project and technical risks, mitigate them, or capture them in the pricing strategy; communicate risks to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to highlight key methods, programme, outputs and plant selection.
  • For select tenders, manage and coordinate the preparation of preliminary and general pricing.
  • Complete designer risk assessments.
  • Assist the Pre‑construction Manager with tender settlement/gate papers.
  • Benchmark our solutions against market design solutions to increase success rate.
  • Provide considered responses to customer questions, including post‑tender queries.
  • Support the Pre‑construction Manager with customer contact, present tender proposals, and contribute to meetings during the tender process.
  • Review tender submissions from other bid teams.
  • When tenders reach the 1‑2‑1 stage with the client or main contractor, prepare and communicate the design history, philosophy and current proposal to the operational delivery design team.
  • Build effective client relations and strong relationships with external structural designers.
  • Check designs completed by other members of the team.
  • Complete contract designs for submissions to structural engineers after contract award.
  • Carry out site visits and technical audits to ensure compliance.
  • Respond to and close out non‑conformance issues on site.

Requirements

These are core responsibilities that define the role:

  • Develop bids, tenders, and proposals.
  • Coordinate delivery of winning and innovative ground engineering solutions for large projects.

Who we’re looking for

  • Graduate degree in civil engineering or similar, or substantial experience in piling and ground engineering operations and design.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the piling or geotechnical industry.
  • Working towards or holding Chartered Status of ICE or equivalent.
  • Valid CSCS card.
  • Experience designing geotechnical foundations (load‑bearing piles, retaining walls) and deep knowledge of ground engineering and customer focus.
  • Experience with WALLAP and OASYS software preferred.
  • Ability to develop Revit and PLAXIS skills and train others.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective communication with teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Full focus and determination to achieve successful outcomes.

  • Adaptable to changing customer demands and energized by change.
