Position Overview

The Principal Network Engineer manages and maintains company computer networks. This role involves planning and developing solutions for crucial infrastructure initiatives, providing high-level technical guidance, mentoring a team of engineers, and ensuring the stability of network operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support network service implementation and maintenance, including accurate and up to date network designs and documentation.
  • Collaborate with network architects to design and implement functional company networks.
  • Analyze and confirm information demands and functional requirements in collaboration with internal and external customers.
  • Adopt network security measures after organizing, planning, and safeguarding data, software, and hardware.
  • Monitor network performance to identify necessary adjustments and improvements.
  • Cooperate with technology suppliers to offer business-focused solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership to teams working on deployment and support.
  • Ensure the stability of the working environment before, during, and after system updates.
  • Establish and maintain strong cross-functional working connections with corporate and local teams.
  • Resolve issues escalated by lower support tiers and provide support for those tiers as needed.
  • Configure firewalls, routing, and switching to maximize network security and efficiency.
  • Utilize online resources and documentation to gain knowledge about new or unfamiliar technology.
  • Install and configure networking hardware.
  • Create and implement network security measures.
  • Mentor and guide junior Network Engineering staff.
  • Conduct regular network performance tests.
  • Delegate networking maintenance tasks to junior staff.
  • Deal with escalated network support issues.
  • Draw up network status reports.

Basic Qualifications

  • College or University Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Cisco CCIE/CCDE qualified is desirable or CCNP level equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of High Availability, High Security, Internet Data Center Experience and the requisite rigor needed to operate in that environment.
  • 2+ years of public cloud experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with automation and deployment frameworks to deploy network services.
  • Documentation skills and experience.
  • Design and deployment experience with most of the following technologies: F5, Palo Alto, Windows Server, VMWare, SD Wan, Network Virtualization.
  • Must be able to lawfully work within the UK and have unrestricted work authorization for UK.

  • Strong organization skills and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of ITSM/ITIL.
  • Project coordination and management experience.
  • Experience with the following technologies and solutions.
