Job Summary
Join an experienced team of Stoma Nurses in the Digestive and Emergency Surgery Care Group, contributing to multidisciplinary patient care. The role involves working alongside consultants and ward teams to develop and enhance stoma pathways, providing support across the Trust and opportunities for professional development and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Expertise: Provide clinical care and advice to patients with stomas, particularly those undergoing bowel resections, cystectomies and stoma formation surgeries.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with medical staff, dietitians, social workers and other healthcare professionals to manage patient care.
- Autonomous Practice: Lead nurse‑led clinics and participate in clinical audits to ensure high standards of care.
- Education and Training: Deliver education to patients, staff and the wider multidisciplinary team across multiple sites.
- Patient Support: Offer ongoing support to patients with established stomas and refer them to community services as needed.
Key Requirements
- Experience: Extensive experience in Stoma nursing with the ability to maintain and develop expertise.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills essential for interaction with patients, families and healthcare teams.
- Autonomy and Leadership: Ability to work autonomously, providing leadership and guidance within a small, highly skilled team.
- Cross‑Site Flexibility: Work across different sites within the Trust to cover gaps and ensure continuity of care.
- Complex Care Experience: Experience managing trauma‑related and cancer‑specific stoma care across the Aintree, Royal and other sites.

Qualifications
- Registered Nurse / Midwife
- Post‑basic specialist qualification relevant to speciality
- Recognised teaching qualification
- First degree
- Recordable specialist qualification (desirable)
- Independent Nurse Prescribing (desirable)
- Research qualification (desirable)
- Master’s degree (desirable)
Experience
- Demonstrable post‑registration experience
- Extensive clinical experience
- Involvement in audit and quality improvement
- Successful application of management and leadership skills at Band 6
- Experience as Specialist Sister (desirable)
- Management qualification (desirable)
Knowledge
- In‑depth specialist knowledge of stoma care
