Consultant in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (interest in Breast)

Company: Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Apply for the Consultant in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (interest in Breast)
Location: Colney
Job Description:

Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant appointment with a view to augment the breast reconstructive service based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. This is a full‑time post of 10 PAs, available from January 2027, to join a department of 17 consultants and an existing team of 3 substantive plastic surgery colleagues and 1 locum plastic surgery colleague with sub‑specialty interests in breast reconstructive surgery.

We welcome all applications irrespective of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. People with disabilities will be offered an interview providing they meet the minimum criteria for the post. The Trust operates job share and flexible working.

The appointee will provide breast reconstruction specialist and general plastic surgical support for the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Participation in the general plastic surgery on‑call rota is expected. The consultant plastic surgery on‑call service is based on a hot week system with tier one and tier two cover. This provides 24‑hour weekend cover for general plastic surgery including hand trauma followed by daytime cover from 07:00 to 18:00 when routine clinical commitments are suspended. Weekday nights (Monday to Thursday) are covered by a non‑hot week consultant colleague on a rotational basis. The majority of adult hand trauma is managed via the ambulatory care centre staffed separately from the on‑call team Monday to Friday. The NNUH functions as a burns facility with all resuscitation and complex burns being referred to the regional burns centre in Chelmsford. Post‑operative patients on site will be managed by the hot‑week on‑call team when the surgeon is off‑site.

The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals.

All consultants, including the appointee, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management. The appointee will be a member of the Consultant Staff Committee and be expected to serve on this committee.
