Job overview
Nutrition Clinical Nurse Specialist to deliver a high‑quality patient nutrition service, overseeing strategy and implementation of best nutritional care across Lister Hospital. Works closely with the nutrition team (consultant gastroenterologist, dietician, and clinical nurse specialist) and supports patients requiring enteral or parenteral feeding.
Main duties
- Clinical assessment of nutritional needs and delivery of nutritional treatment plans.
- Coordinate the Nutrition Support Team (NST) with nursing care across the hospital.
- Provide advanced technical skills for NG/NJ feeding, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) and liaise with radiology for RIG.
- Train nurses, patients and carers on nutrition management.
- Provide outpatient liaison with community nurses and carers.
Qualifications
- NMC Registered Nurse
- First level degree or equivalent experience/knowledge
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Teaching or mentoring qualification
- Graduate diploma or MSc in nursing or higher professional qualification in nursing/specialist area
- Post‑registration qualification in specialty or willingness to complete
- Advanced communication course or willingness to be trained
- IT / Excel experience
Experience
- Evidence of mentorship/preceptorship roles
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Accept personal accountability for own practice
- Understanding of evidence‑based practice
- Understanding of Clinical Governance
- Knowledge of patient pathways and their complexities
- Formal/informal teaching experience
- Previous gastroenterology, surgical or intensive ward experience

- Independent JAG accredited endoscopist or willingness to undertake the training
