Purpose

The Transport & Logistics Manager is responsible for the effective management of transport operations, fleet compliance and logistics activities throughout the UK. The role ensures full compliance with transport legislation, health & safety requirements and fleet management obligations, whilst delivering safe, efficient and cost-effective transport and logistics solutions to support business operations.

The successful candidate will act as a key point of contact between internal departments, suppliers, freight providers and regulatory bodies, ensuring operational excellence, legal compliance and continuous improvement across all transport and logistics activities.

Roles & Responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

Transport & Logistics Management

  • Manage the day-to-day transport and logistics operations across the UK and internationally.
  • Coordinate domestic and international deliveries and collections through approved logistics providers.
  • Manage import and export activities, ensuring all customs, shipping and compliance documentation is completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensure effective planning and coordination of logistics activities to support customer requirements and operational delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with transport providers, freight forwarders and logistics partners.
  • Negotiate pricing agreements and service contracts to ensure cost-effective transport solutions.
  • Monitor logistics costs and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and savings.

Fleet Management & Compliance

  • Manage the company fleet of service vans and operational vehicles across multiple UK locations.
  • Ensure all vehicles are maintained in accordance with UK legal requirements, including servicing, MOTs, taxation and insurance.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance activities, repairs and breakdown support arrangements.
  • Manage fuel card systems, telematics platforms and fleet insurance programmes.
  • Arrange and manage 12-weekly PMIs and tail lift inspections where applicable.
  • Support fleet replacement programmes and the procurement of new vehicles.
  • Coordinate vehicle fit-outs, including racking systems, inverters, telematics, dashcams and specialist equipment installations.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment remain available to support operational and customer requirements.
  • Monitor fleet utilisation and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain a working knowledge of Dangerous Goods regulations, including ADR, IMDG and IATA requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant UK transport legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage tachograph downloads and ensure compliance with drivers’ hours regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with LOLER and PUWER regulations.
  • Maintain vehicle safety equipment and load restraint systems.
  • Support internal and external audits relating to transport, logistics and fleet activities.
  • Monitor legislative changes and implement updates to maintain ongoing compliance.
  • Act as the focal point for transport and fleet compliance across the business.
  • Ensure compliance with ADR requirements relating to the transportation of batteries and associated equipment.

Supplier & Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with suppliers, transport providers, insurers and internal stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external service providers.
  • Monitor supplier performance and identify opportunities for service improvements and cost savings.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for transport, fleet and logistics-related enquiries and issues.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a Transport Manager, Fleet Manager, Logistics Manager or similar operational role.
  • Strong understanding of UK transport legislation and fleet compliance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Dangerous Goods regulations, including ADR, IMDG and IATA.
  • Experience managing import and export activities and associated documentation.
  • Knowledge of DVSA regulations, tachograph legislation and drivers’ hours requirements.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and negotiating service agreements.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

  • Ensure all transport, fleet and logistics activities are carried out in accordance with company policies and applicable legislation.
  • Support audits, inspections and continuous improvement initiatives relating to QHSE performance.
  • Ensure all activities are undertaken in accordance with company procedures and industry regulations.
