Position Overview
Site Reliability Engineer – Barclays, Glasgow, Scotland. Permanent, full‑time, on‑site.
Purpose of the role
Apply software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response to ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology that power Barclays.
Accountabilities
- Ensure availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
- Resolve, analyze, and respond to system outages and disruptions; implement measures to prevent recurrence.
- Develop tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reducing manual workload and improving system resilience.
- Monitor and optimise system performance and resource usage; identify and address bottlenecks; implement performance‑tuning best practices.
- Collaborate with development teams to embed reliability, scalability, and performance practices into the software development lifecycle.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations; contribute to the organization’s technology communities.
Qualifications
- Experience with Linux/Unix, Java applications, Oracle, SQL (PLSQL/MySQL) and RDBMS, including query writing, tuning concepts, and data analysis.
- Experience with at least two of the following middleware technologies: JBoss, Apache Tomcat, Glassfish.
- Experience with cloud technologies, AWS, OpenShift/APIs.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as AppDynamics.
- Experience with ITRS and scheduling tools: TWS and/or Autosys.
- Preferred: Prior experience in the Barclays or banking domain; programming skills in ML, AI/GenAI, Shell, Java, Python, JSON, or similar.
- Preferred: Knowledge of risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital technology.
