Consultant in CAMHS – Multi Agency Rapid Response Team

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic consultant psychiatrist to join the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service in the multi‑agency rapid response service (MARRS). The role will provide clinical leadership for a 24/7 crisis response team serving young people with acute mental health difficulties across community and acute settings. This includes collaboration with paediatrics, police, the 136 Suite, community children’s services and the inpatient unit.

Main duties of the job
The consultant will be part of the service leadership team, providing support and supervision to other team members and delivering specialist psychiatric advice to the multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include supervising medical trainees and advanced clinical practitioners, ensuring effective communication with referring and receiving teams throughout the Trust and Primary Care, and joining therapy sessions in complex cases when appropriate. The consultant will also take an active role in strategic development of the team and broader services, working with the service manager to steer the service in line with organisational strategy.
Successful candidates will develop a personal development plan for lifelong learning. New appointees may extend their development through additional qualifications, research, or flexible SPA offers above the standard 2.5 SPA for suitable applicants.

Person Specification
Experience
- CCT or equivalent in CAMHS
- Substantial experience managing a busy caseload of clients with a range of mental health problems
- Evidence of working within a community mental health setting
- Participation in user involvement in services
Skills and Aptitude
- Experience assessing and treating young patients and families in acute & community psychiatric settings, and ability to offer expert opinion on a range of child and adolescent psychiatry issues
- Excellent clinical assessment skills
- Ability to manage risk
- Awareness of community structures, social care options and processes
- Understanding of recovery principles in mental health
