Scope

The global distribution project management office (PMO) is the central function that standardises and supports project and program delivery across the function. The role encompasses distribution operations around the globe, adding value with external customers and internal partners.

Job Summary

The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for delivering a range of projects from strategic activities to value‑add initiatives for customers. In addition, they will provide support and knowledge to the project team and interface functions across the organisation.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities

  • Work closely with Key Account and internal function representatives to understand and fully document customer needs in addition to ensuring these align with the organisation’s and distribution functions VMOST.
  • Identify and ensure appropriate resources to deliver projects on time and cost. These are likely to be larger, more complex, higher value with more functions, sites, and countries involved than those expected of the Project Manager role.
  • Responsible for objectives with a 2–3 year timeframe that impact the distribution division and likely require integration with other functions.
  • Use areas of expertise to influence strategic and operational plans.
  • Contribute to the development of goals for the department and provide critical input to planning efforts.
  • Facilitate and lead meetings with key stakeholders, including steering committees and functional leads, providing supporting documents (Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, etc.) to review and update project information.
  • Ensure adherence to the global distribution project lifecycle and respective PMO methodology, tools, and governance (RACI, risk logs, etc.).
  • Work closely with other project managers on related projects on dependencies such as managing issues and risks, updating schedules and predecessor/successor relationships, communication planning, and creating other plans and records.
  • Act as delegate for the director, assuming decision‑making authority and representing the function as required.
  • Build capability within the team through effective leadership, mentoring, and ongoing development.

Travel Requirements

This role is based full time in a Cooper distribution location. Travel is required as necessary depending on project requirements and team meetings; expected to be up to 10 % of time.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

You are a project professional with a proven record of delivering multiple high‑value, complex successful projects in operational functions such as logistics, warehouse management, packing, shipping, and planning involving multiple functions, sites, and countries.

You will have a great mix of hard and soft skills to be successful in this role, including:

  • Leadership and people skills.
  • Communication skills evident with writing clear project documentation; ability to present to executives and stakeholders and to facilitate workshops and meetings. You listen actively.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently, collaborating with direct manager and other senior leadership on key deliverables.
  • Planning and organisational skills that will fulfil the requirements of an active workstream.
  • Ability to identify, elevate, and mitigate risks.
  • Thorough understanding of project management governance and methodologies.
  • Ability to turn complex (or poorly defined) situations into clear actions.
  • Understanding of how projects impact business goals and create value for internal and external stakeholders.
  • High emotional intelligence, building trust and rapport with appropriate empathy and self‑awareness.

Work Environment

The role is based within an office environment with occasional travel to other Cooper locations. It requires working within a distribution/warehouse environment and liaising with support functions. The role is global and therefore some flexibility will be required working with other time zones.

Experience and Education

Minimum 5 years of managing cross‑functional projects in a distribution and customer environment with a focus on service delivery at both a strategic and a hands‑on level.

You will have experience of working

  • Closely with internal commercial functions and directly with customers.
  • In an IT for healthcare industry (ideally the contact lens industry).

You will have a working knowledge of

  • Related disciplines such as FDA and HiIPA.
  • ERP and logistics/distribution systems.

To be successful in this role you will likely have these qualifications and education

  • A project management professional certification.
  • Evidence of training in Agile techniques.
  • Experience, training or qualification in Lean and Six Sigma.
  • A university degree or relevant qualifications.
