The Sortation Manager is responsible for leading and managing all sortation operations within the distribution centre, ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient processing of inbound and outbound freight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of supervisors and sortation associates.
- Manage daily sortation operations to achieve productivity, quality, and service level objectives.
- Monitor workflow and allocate labour resources to meet changing operational demands.
- Ensure all parcels, products, or freight are accurately sorted and dispatched within required timeframes.
- Drive operational excellence through continuous improvement initiatives and process optimisation.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including productivity, accuracy, throughput, labour utilisation, and service performance.
- Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations, company policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and disciplinary actions where required.
- Investigate operational issues and implement corrective actions to minimise disruptions.
- Collaborate with transport, warehouse, planning, and customer service teams to ensure seamless operations.
- Support peak planning, staffing, and capacity management during seasonal demand.
- Produce operational reports and communicate performance results to senior management.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and high-performance working environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous management experience within warehouse, logistics, distribution, or parcel sortation operations.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Experience managing large operational teams across multiple shifts.
- Excellent organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret operational data and KPIs.
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced operational environment.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Lean, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement experience.
- IOSH or NEBOSH Health & Safety qualification.
- Experience within e‑commerce, courier, parcel, or automated sortation environments.
