The Site Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of one or more practice sites, ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of high-quality primary care services.

The post holder will provide operational leadership across reception, administration, and site support functions, enabling clinical teams to deliver excellent patient‑centred care. The role includes responsibility for staff management, service delivery, operational performance, quality improvement, facilities oversight, compliance, and maintaining excellent patient experience in accordance with NHS standards, Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements, and practice policies.

The role requires a proactive, organised, and collaborative individual who can manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards of service, staff engagement, and operational effectiveness across multiple locations where required.

Job responsibilities

The Site Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operational management of one or more primary care practice sites to ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

The role provides leadership across reception, administration, and site support functions while working closely with clinical teams to deliver an excellent patient experience. Responsibilities include managing staff, coordinating site operations, maintaining appointment flow, supporting workforce planning, and ensuring operational cover across sites.

The post holder will lead staff recruitment, induction, training, appraisals, and performance management while promoting a positive team culture and staff wellbeing.

The role also carries responsibility for compliance with NHS standards, Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements, infection prevention and control measures, health and safety, business continuity planning, and quality improvement initiatives.

In addition, the Site Operations Manager supports facilities management, digital transformation, information governance, and effective communication between leadership teams and site staff to ensure consistent, patient‑centred service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams.
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office, email, and scheduling systems.
  • Understanding of service delivery, performance management, and operational governance.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, quality improvement, and patient‑centred care.
  • Experience working within an NHS, primary care, or GP practice environment.
  • Knowledge of primary care clinical and operational systems.
  • Understanding of QOF and CQC frameworks and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing facilities and/or multi‑site operations.
  • Experience in project management and service improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supporting digital transformation and operational change.
