About Us
Applications are invited for a clinical research fellow to undertake research focussed on the development of artificial intelligence tools for brain tumour management under the supervision of Mr Jonathan Shapey within the Department of Surgical & Interventional Imaging, School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, King’s College London and the Department of Neurosurgery, King’s College Hospital.
About The Role
This is a full time / part time post (40 hours per week), and you will be offered a 1 year fixed term contract. This post is based at the St Thomas’ and Denmark Hill Campus. There will also be an opportunity to conduct clinical duties as a locum junior clinical fellow at King’s College Hospital.
Applicants should be medically qualified with full GMC registration. The post is suitable for resident doctors who wish to undertake a period of research in neurosurgery to support future competitive doctoral fellowship and neurosurgery residency applications.
The candidate should have excellent interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to manage projects, work to deadlines and collaborate with clinical teams.
Prior research experience and peer‑reviewed publications are highly desirable but not essential.
Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro‑rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent; Full GMC registration with licence to practice
- Knowledge of current neurosurgical practice and the management of brain tumours
- Good IT / computing skills
- Good verbal & written communication skills
- Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
- Research experience, including presentations/publications
- Data analysis & statistical knowledge
- MRCS or equivalent
