PR/Campaigns Manager – DK Marketing & Communications

Dorling Kindersley Limited

Job Description

Are you a passionate and creative individual who loves bringing books to life for readers? Do you have a knack for generating excitement and sparking conversations around books? If so, we’re looking for a talented PR/Campaigns Manager to join our dynamic team at DK.

In this role, you will play a vital role in driving sales and raising brand awareness for both our adults and kids books. Working across our DK+ division – home to our pop culture and entertainment publishing – you will have the opportunity to develop and execute innovative publicity campaigns. You will work with some of the biggest entertainment brands in the world and generate impactful press coverage across all media channels and events. Working on major entertainment titles like Blue Planet III, Star Wars Star Pilots and An Unordinary History of Ideas, you will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure the success of our books and get them into the hands of the right audience.

Typical duties include developing and executing comprehensive campaigns for books:

  • Owning campaigns and being the go‑to person for certain books and licensors
  • Writing compelling press releases and promotional copy
  • Collaborating with internal teams, including editorial, social media and our in‑house design team, to create integrated campaigns.
  • Monitoring and analysing campaign performance to measure effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with journalists, librarians, trade press, retailers, and industry influencers.
  • Securing feature and review coverage in key media outlets, including traditional and digital platforms.
  • Organising and attending industry events, conferences, author events, and book launches.
  • Working with licensors and external partners, being both proactive and reactive to ensure our books reach their audiences.

Whilst the role has a PR focus, the right candidate would be willing to stretch their experience and embrace some marketing responsibilities, such as digital marketing opportunities, bookshop collaborations and advertising where relevant.

As a PR/Campaigns Manager, you’ll need a passion for entertainment brands and a strong understanding of the book market. We are seeking a motivated self‑starter who is eager to contribute to discussions and share fresh ideas.

This role is perfect for an expert organiser who can manage a busy and varied workload, while juggling multiple deadlines. You’ll possess a keen eye for detail, be adaptable to creative changes, and excel as a team player and communicator. Your ability to build strong working relationships will be crucial. You will also have excellent presentation skills and experience working with external licensing partners.

Key Requirements

  • A proven track record of generating eye‑catching, stand‑out PR coverage and events, ideally at a trade publishing house
  • Strong attention to detail, with an understanding of the elements needed to make a title commercially successful
  • Detailed working knowledge of PR and strong, established media connections
  • Motivated to develop your own understanding of the media and the wider children’s book market
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, ability to prioritise a busy workload
  • Excellent communication and people skills at all levels and ability to build and maintain first‑rate relationships with external contacts and to pitch ideas in internal and external meetings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication/negotiation skills
  • Results‑driven, with an ability to analyse effectiveness of campaigns against budget and sales
  • Sociable, confident, enthusiastic and self‑motivated team player
  • Awareness / experience of marketing tactics and campaign approaches a bonus

If you are an experienced publicity / campaigns professional with a proven track record of supporting and delivering successful consumer and trade campaigns, we want to hear from you!
