Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and values-driven Service Manager to support our teams through a period of transition. This role will oversee our Safe Havens in Exeter, Barnstaple and Torquay, and manage the sub‑contracted service in Plymouth for a fixed-term period of 6 months.

Employment Details

Hours: 37.5 per weekSalary: £39,357 progressing to £43,791 per annumLocation: Devon – Exeter, Barnstaple, Torquay, Plymouth

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible and accountable leadership across the Safe Havens and oversee the sub‑contracted service in Plymouth
  • Hold full responsibility for operational performance, quality, workforce and financial sustainability
  • Make decisions that balance quality, safety, demand and resources, ensuring responsiveness and sustainability
  • Create a positive and inclusive culture where staff feel valued, supported and empowered
  • Lead and develop Team Managers and wider teams, maintaining high standards and continuous improvement
  • Support local growth and development, working closely with commissioners, partners and communities
  • Ensure services are positioned within neighbourhood and place‑based models, contributing to future opportunities for MHM
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings (up to 11 pm) and weekends, to provide access when needed

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experienced and compassionate leader in mental health, health, social care or a related field
  • Proven track record of delivering against performance targets, managing teams and leading through change
  • Experience of leading services and managing managers in a mental health or related environment
  • Strong track record of delivering against KPIs, contractual requirements and quality standards
  • Experience of managing performance, workforce challenges and service improvement
  • Experience of working with local partners, commissioners and stakeholders
  • Financial awareness and experience of managing budgets and resources effectively
  • Knowledge of governance, safeguarding, risk management and compliance frameworks
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to support, challenge and develop others
  • Ability to use data and insight to drive performance and continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Commitment to recovery‑focused, person‑centred support and co‑production
  • Visible, authentic and values‑led leadership that creates an environment where colleagues and those supported feel respected, included and able to succeed
