Job Title: Investigations & Malpractice Manager
Salary: £35,200 – £45,700
Location: Cambridge, UK – Hybrid (2‑3 days per week in office)
Contract: Permanent, full time (35 hours per week)
Play a pivotal role in upholding the security of IELTS by providing operational and investigative support for major investigations into potential malpractice, ensuring fair outcomes for test takers and strengthening global security practices.

About the role
This role bridges strategic oversight from the Investigations & Malpractice Lead with hands‑on execution and adherence to standards. It provides expert guidance on complex cases, drives improvements to prevent future issues, and contributes to the development of policies and standards that safeguard test quality worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Support investigative strategy and contribute to global security policy and improvements.
- Manage high‑priority malpractice and security investigations.
- Conduct post‑incident reviews and root‑cause analysis to identify systemic issues or vulnerabilities.
- Recommend corrective actions and policy updates to reduce future risk and strengthen integrity.
- Assist IELTS in engagements with regulators, responding to enquiries and ensuring compliance with all relevant security‑related regulatory requirements.
Hybrid Work
This position is hybrid, requiring the selected candidate to spend 40‑60% of their time collaborating and connecting face‑to‑face at a dedicated location. Other flexible working requests, including adjustments for disability or long‑term health conditions, will be considered from the first day of employment.
About you
- Experience in investigative methodologies and malpractice patterns.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., Ofqual security conditions).
- Experience with IELTS operations and global test integrity and security risks.
- Ability to lead complex or sensitive cases and conduct root‑cause analysis.
- Experience producing high‑level reports and insights for senior audiences.
- Leadership skills, including team management or oversight.
- Excellent analytical thinking, communication, and problem‑solving capabilities.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in high‑stakes testing security or similar investigative fields.
- Qualifications in investigations, security risk management, or regulatory liaison.
- Background in procedural reviews and continuous improvement in security contexts.
- Familiarity with case management systems or reporting tools.
