This is an exciting time to join Cardiff Council’s Development team. We have implemented a large scale and award-winning new build programme capable of delivering 4,000 new homes and investing significantly in our existing communities. To do this we have a Capital Budget of over £850 million and a development pipeline of over 60 sites. We deliver new council homes, homes for sale and new homes for first time buyers available through our First Homes Cardiff scheme.

Using innovative solutions and adopting a low-carbon standard we are delivering new homes at scale and pace, and we need the right people with extensive development experience to join our team and help deliver our aspirations. We are passionate about building great homes and creating sustainable communities.

Due to an internal promotion, we are recruiting for an Operational Manager to lead on the delivery of the Channel View redevelopment programme and help shape our wider long-term development and regeneration programmes.

About the job

The successful candidate will be part of our existing senior management team giving us the additional resources and expertise we need at a senior level to ensure this exciting development programme continues to deliver at scale & pace

The Operational Manager will lead a dedicated team to deliver an exciting and innovative redevelopment programme within the channel View estate. The programme is well-established and represents the councils largest housing lead regeneration programme in generations, delivering circa 400 new homes for existing residents.

The successful candidate will oversee the delivery of the Channel View project at every stage of the process – from design development, master-planning to development of the preferred option through to planning submission, grant application and on-site delivery.

What We Are Looking For From You

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in social housing delivery and in the management of development teams. You will have a proven track record of successfully delivering new build schemes within robust viability and programming parameters.

Having a detailed working knowledge of social housing requirements in Wales, Social Housing Grant application processes and of managing construction contracts is a must. You will be expected to develop Employers Requirement documents, including specifications and have detailed experience of procuring contractors.

You will share our passion and enthusiasm for delivering innovative and exciting projects, creating homes that make a real difference to our residents and in setting new standards for sustainability, place-making and urban design.
