Operations Manager
Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week)
Shift: 14:00 – 22:30
Reporting to the Site Manager, you will support the day‑to‑day running of site operations, overseeing the processing of plastic, cans and glass. Working closely with the Safety, Engineering, Logistics and Quality teams, you will help manage operational performance, compliance and staff development across a 24/7 operation. You will assist in ensuring the site operates safely, efficiently and in full compliance with all relevant health and safety, environmental and permit requirements. The role also involves supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, productivity and profitability while maintaining high standards of performance and service delivery.
Your core responsibilities.
- Develop and improve the safety culture (reducing incidents and accidents). Monitoring compliance and setting achievable targets for continual improvement to keep staff safe. Review weekly H&S statistics & ensure that all incidents are reviewed, and improvements actioned.
- Oversee operations at site ensuring safe operation of all facilities in line with business needs and site permit; including deputising for Site Manager if required.
- To contribute to the achievement of P&L Budget for the year.
- Monitor performance (Downtime/yields/safety) against targets, identifying and addressing shortfalls and recognising opportunities to improve against budget across all areas of responsibility.
- The Operations Manager should deal with any safety non‑conformities immediately and communicate any finding to the Safety and Compliance Manager tracking risks and trends and highlighting areas of potential improvement.
- The majority of the post holder’s time will be spent managing site while focusing on Production and providing practical guidance, support and assistance regarding operations, including creation of production reports. A large proportion of the role will also include collating reports for the Management team to aid in the identification of trends, deficiencies and improvements.
- The role will be expected to manage production related tasks of moderate to high complexity.
Our essential requirements.
- Proven experience managing operations within a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Sound understanding of health and safety legislation, environmental compliance and ISO standards.
- Experience managing budgets, controlling costs and interpreting financial performance data.
- Good knowledge of engineering, operational and logistics functions, with a practical approach to problem solving.
- Relevant qualifications such as IOSH (minimum), with COTC Level 4 and strong operational, technical and behavioural competencies desirable.
