Job Description:

You will lead safe, compliant and efficient shift operations on a GSK UK manufacturing site. You will manage people, production schedules and day‑to‑day decisions that keep supply on track. Responsibilities

  • Act as the senior site leader outside core business hours, accountable for safe, compliant and effective site operations across all areas in partnership with operations managers.
  • Set, adjust and communicate real‑time production priorities in line with safety, quality, supply and operational requirements.
  • Act as the escalation point for operational issues across manufacturing, warehouse, laboratories, utilities and support functions.
  • Lead and coordinate responses to incidents and emergencies, ensuring timely decisions, effective communication and appropriate escalation.
  • Support First Line Leaders in managing performance, resolving complex issues and maintaining control of their areas.
  • Prioritise and deploy resources across the site to respond to changing operational demands, constraints and risks.
  • Lead complex problem solving and investigation activity for critical events, ensuring robust root cause analysis, action plans and follow‑up.
  • Maintain audit readiness, compliance, accountability and clear leadership handover by ensuring issues, risks, decisions and actions are visible and controlled.

Basic Qualifications

  • Significant experience within a regulated manufacturing environment with proven leadership capability, including experience in incident management, problem solving and operational decision making.
  • Strong leadership and decision‑making capability in high‑pressure operational environments.
  • Experience in an operational role with day‑to‑day production delivery responsibilities.
  • Experience supervising or leading frontline production teams during shift work.
  • Good knowledge of quality and safety requirements relevant to manufacturing (for example GMP, local health and safety standards).
  • Practical experience in resolving incidents, deviations or production issues under time pressure.
  • Technical understanding of manufacturing equipment and process constraints in a production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal qualification in science, engineering, manufacturing or related discipline.
  • Experience with manufacturing systems such as SAP or production planning tools.
  • Experience supporting audits, inspections or regulatory compliance activities.
  • Skills in continuous improvement methods such as Lean or Six Sigma.
  • People management experience, including coaching and rostering for shift teams.

Working Model

This role is on‑site at Barnard Castle. You should be prepared to spend significant time at the manufacturing site to lead activities and work directly with operational teams.
