Location Field-based across the Midlands (out on the road most of the week)

About the business
A well-established, UK plant hire business that has supported the construction industry for decades – from regional builders to major national infrastructure programmes. They are known for personal service, sustainable solutions and doing things differently, and our people are at the heart of everything we do.
We’re looking for a Regional Sales Manager to drive sales across the Midlands – managing our key customers, winning new accounts and growing existing ones.
The role
This is a field-based sales role focused on growth. You’ll spend most of your week out on the road and in front of customers – looking after your key accounts, opening new ones, and growing the business you already have. It’s a great fit for an experienced plant hire sales professional who knows the market, enjoys building relationships, and is driven by hitting and beating targets. There are no direct reports; your focus is the customer and the numbers.
What you’ll do
- Drive profitable sales across the Midlands, hitting and exceeding your individual targets.
- Manage and grow a portfolio of key customer accounts – increasing spend, share and retention.
- Win new business and open new accounts across the region.
- Spend most of your time in the field – customer meetings, site visits, project reviews and networking.
- Build and deepen relationships with Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, major projects and regional clients.
- Identify and secure opportunities across infrastructure, civil engineering, rail, utilities, highways and construction.
- Cross-sell across plant hire, labour supply, transport and added-value services.
- Work with the commercial team to turn around competitive, high-quality quotes, proposals and tenders.
- Partner with operations, transport and hire desk teams so service delivery meets customer expectations.
- Keep your pipeline current by tracking market activity, frameworks and upcoming projects.
- Represent the business at industry events, client presentations and stakeholder meetings.
- Support debt management across your accounts and be a positive, collaborative team player.
What we’re looking for
Essential
- Plant hire experience is essential – you understand the sector, its customers and how hire decisions are made.
- A strong track record in B2B field sales: opening new accounts and growing existing ones.
- Established relationships with, or a proven ability to win, Tier 1/Tier 2 contractors and major regional clients.
- Commercial acumen – confident owning targets, quoting and protecting margin.
- Self-motivated and happy spending most of your week on the road managing your own diary.
- First-class communication, negotiation and presentation skills, credible from site level to boardroom.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly across the region.
Desirable
- Knowledge of frameworks and major UK infrastructure programmes.
- Experience across the wider construction supply or haulage sector.
What you’ll get
- 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays.
- An annual personal learning and development allowance.
- A paid volunteer day each year for a cause you care about.
- A subsidised wellbeing contribution (subject to criteria).
- Enhanced maternity and paternity leave.
- Mental health and wellbeing support programmes.
- Ongoing learning and development, regular team socials, and a collaborative, inclusive environment.
