Horticultural Technician

PE Global is currently recruiting for a Horticultural Technician for a leading multi-national FMCG client based in Reading.

This is a contract position based in Reading, hours includes weekend duty (one weekend in four; typically 2 hours per day).

Pay rate is £14.85 per hour – £18.59 per hour depending on experience.

Duties of the role/Responsibilities

• General maintenance of plants and greenhouse facilities
• Inspecting plants for pests and diseases; pest control through application of biological control
• Monitoring, maintaining and calibrating of automatic irrigation system; making up nutrient stocks solutions.
• Inspecting plants under quarantine for viral and other disease symptoms
• Plant propagation
• Co-organising exports of plant material
• Attendance of a Quarantine Advisory Committee twice per year

Education/Experience

• General horticultural skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Prepared to work in tropical environments
• Prepared to do manual tasks
• Problem solving
• Previous glass house / polytunnel work
